About our classes and workshops:
Young Pelicans
- Ages 5-9
- Registration Fee: $150
- Classes are held Saturday mornings, 11 am – 12 noon in the Rebeca Sosa Theater (2nd floor inside the Miami Springs Community Center, 1401 Westward Drive).
This course is designed for first timers, aged 5 – 9. The goal of the course is to acclimate young actors to performing in front of an audience. To accomplish this, we work at stretching the young actor’s ability to focus over an extended period of time. Pantomime and puppetry play a significant part in this. We also stress creative dramatics, poetry, and vocal technique. All of it coming under the heading of FUN. The class meets on Saturday mornings for a modest fee of $150. The class will perform in the Rebeca Sosa Theater. We may be able to accommodate children younger than five, but they must be accompanied by a parent during class.
Acting for the Stage (Main Stage Production)
- Ages 9 and Up
- Registration Fee: $150
- Classes are held Saturdays from 1:00-4:00 pm in the Rebeca Sosa Theater (2nd floor inside the Miami Springs Community Center, 1401 Westward Drive).
- Please Note: There may also be rehearsals on days other than Saturdays. Leading up to performances, there will also be multiple weekday evening rehearsals. Please see the Rehearsal Schedule for more information.
This course is the main stage acting class that mounts the Pelican Playhouse productions. It is the hallmark of the Pelican Playhouse that we present our family-oriented productions using both adults and children on stage together. Very often, parents and their children appear together in the same production. We have always believed that real growth in acting only occurs during a live performance. We start with the basics, work on vocal technique, stage presence, and improvisation. The remainder of the weeks are spent in rehearsal. The class culminates with performances in the Rebeca Sosa Theater. The class meets on Saturdays for a modest fee of $150.
Audition Process
Our playhouse is unique in that we hold classes instead of auditions for our productions during the year. We are a teaching theater and invite everyone to participate, no matter their background in acting.
