In Artistic Director Ralph Wakefield’s adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll entertains his niece, Alice and her friends, with the classic telling of Alice chasing a White Rabbit down a hole to a world in which she encounters strange creatures and even stranger poetry. All of the familiar characters, such as the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts, the Caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat and a deck of cards, are a part of the story.
Seven in One Blow tells the story of a child living in the city who kills seven flies with a single swat and makes a belt emblazoned with “Seven in One Blow” to commemorate the event. The Kid travels about meeting numerous colorful characters. Most people think the belt refers to seven people and assign the Kid all kinds of difficult tasks. Invaluable lessons are learned: you don’t always have to show how strong you are; when you tease people, you are hurting someone who might be just like you; and a scary monster learns that she is loved.
